Hand-painted (written) holy icon, Our Lady of Gietrzwałd, copy of the icon XVII century. A timeless masterpiece, crafted with the utmost attention to detail.

  • gilded with golden leaves 23.99 karat
  • hand-painted on hardwood using oil paints
  • provided with tapered and dove-tailed battens inserted into the back (like icons from the 12th to 15th centuries)
  • to preserve the longevity of the icon covered several times with emulsion, and after completion covered with preservative material (i.e. varnish)

The inspiration for the image of Our Lady of Gietrzwald was a series of the only Roman Catholic Church-approved apparitions in Poland, which occurred in the village of Gietrzwald (in Warmia) in 1877, when Our Lady appeared to two girls on a maple tree by the church from June 27 to September 16.
